APPLE UPSIDE DOWN CAKE
Recipe compliments of Half Crown Hill Orchard

Use your favorite apple

3 cups peeled, sliced apples
1/2 cup sugar
1 tablespoon butter or margarine
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
2 cups flour
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract



Grease a 9-inch square pan. Combine apples, 1/2 cup sugar, butter and cinnamon in a souce pan. Cook just until tender, stirring often. Pour into baking
pan.

Sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Cream shortening together with sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well. Combine milk and vanilla and
add alternately with dry ingredients to creamed mixture, beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Spread over apples in pan.

Bake in 350 oven 35-40 minutes. Remove from oven and turn upside down over serving plate. Let stand a few minutes and remove pan.
